For the fourth year in a row, Sidenor publishes its annual Corporate Report.

The 2020 report reflects the company’s commitment in the face of three important sustainable development challenges: economic, social and environmental sustainability. We thus reaffirm our commitment to transparency, value creation and fluent communication.

Environmental care, respect for the local community and agents of our value chain, circular economy, digitisation, innovation and the promotion of gender equality are the focuses of this annual report.

We would like to share this annual report with all of all through the video attached and the following link to our website.

In 2020, we performed important investments in the modernisation of our premises. This modernisation plan, started in 2017 and achieved by now, aims at putting Sidenor at the forefront of the European steelmaking industry, thanks to a bet on technology innovation, process automation and the general deployment of digitisation in order to ensure product traceability and the implementation of Industry 4.0 criteria. In addition, we further promote, as the pillars of our activity, two concepts which, like Sidenor, start with the letter “S”: the Safety of all people who work in our installations, and the Sustainability of all our processes, by continuously improving our management systems in order to get closer to the “ZERO” objective: zero accidents, zero waste.

In essence, we completed in 2020 the investment effort started in the previous years, and we expect its result to be reflected in a better service to our customers and an increasingly positive impact on society, promoting concepts such as innovation, sustainability and responsibility in all areas where we develop our activity. We have but one ambition: to become a reference for our environment.

For this purpose, we have a human team which is close to 1,600 people, with which we are maintaining a strong commitment. We strive to provide them with the best possible working place to work and develop their professional careers, continuously ensuring their safety, as this is a priority aspect for the company. Likewise, we work to promote gender equality and access to knowledge and training, and to improve the way to identify and develop talent within the company.

Innovation in order to further grow

Innovation is a key competitiveness factor, a tool that is part of our daily management and permeates all our processes as well as, naturally, the development of our new products. Each year, we dedicate major investments to Innovation, one of the pillars of our activity. Our R&D centre, one of the biggest in the European steel sector, enables us to develop new technologies and products in order to meet our customers’ needs. In this line, we are transforming Sidenor so as to become a 4.0 Industry reference, improving and digitising our production processes so that they might prove more efficient, safer and of higher quality, in order to be increasingly competitive.

In a sustainable way

We manage all our activities according to the principles of circular economy, with the objective to minimise the use of resources and reduce our emissions. We are thus continuously seeking for smart alternatives for the reduction, reuse and valorisation of the waste generated during steel production. Such a philosophy enables us to maintain a socially responsible behaviour towards investors, suppliers, customers, society and the communities in which we develop our activities.

In adition, taking the topics of “Climate Change” and “Circular Economy”, around which the new policies, opportunities and risks for our business will be articulated, Sidenor has decided to take a step further in 2020 by defining its environmental positioning. Making Sidenor’s strategic environmental objectives available to the public is a challenge in terms of transparency and commitment, as part of our bet on increasingly sustainable processes and products.

Sidenor and the Sustainable Development Goals

SDGs are a universal call for governments, society and companies to adhere to the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Sidenor supports this initiative by promoting these objectives, in particular:

  • SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
  • SDG 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
  • SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Ultimately, Sidenor is building, in cooperation with all agents in our value chain, a path towards reaching corporate excellence in order to continue growing in a sustainable way and ensure our future.
