At Sidenor, we are convinced that the environment is a critical factor in the development of our activities, both due to our responsibility towards our surroundings and because it is an element that is redefining market rules.
Looking to the future, we see that it is not enough to guarantee good environmental performance in our activities. It is necessary to complement it with a life cycle analysis approach, focusing our efforts on the development of increasingly sustainable products.
As a sign of this commitment, in March 2021, Sidenor took a step forward by adopting an environmental stance with specific objectives and work plans, associated with two pillars: the fight against climate change and the commitment to circular economy.
We are taking another step forward in our commitment to sustainable development and the environment. These are our climate change and circular economy goals:
To reduce CO₂ emissions (Scope 1+2) by
61,5%
by 2033, taking 2021 as the base year
100%
renewable electricity consumption from 2025 onwards
65%
reduction in CO₂ emissions since 2005
To achieve a
95%
waste recovery rate by 2030
+15%
increase in the recovery rate since 2014
Removal of
1,5 M/t
to landfill avoided since 2014
Reducing our carbon footprint is one of the greatest challenges we face from a social and business perspective. In the coming years, the environmental performance of our products will be a key factor in our competitiveness to meet the demands of our customers and financial markets.
Base year for our SBTi greenhouse gas emission reduction commitment, based on absolute emissions of 152,455 tonnes of CO₂ in Scope 1, 152,203 tonnes of CO₂ in Scope 2, and 491,829 tonnes of CO₂ in Scope 3.
For 2033, our target is to reduce our absolute emissions by 61.5% compared to the 2021 base year in Scopes 1 and 2 and by 32.5% compared to the 2021 base year in Scope 3.
We commit to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
Steel is recycled indefinitely and returns to the process as our main raw material, scrap.
At Sidenor, we will approach circular economy from different areas of work and always from the perspective of analysing the life cycle of our products.
We have chosen the annual percentage of recovered waste as the main indicator of our circular economy strategy.
We are committed to achieving 90% waste recovery by 2025
Our goal for 2030 is to achieve 95% recovery of the waste generated
At Sidenor, we eco-design based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to reduce the environmental footprint of our products. We also offer our customers the option of purchasing Sustainable Steels and Carbon-Neutral Steels.
