Sidenor has carried out the first green hydrogen combustion tests in a key process of its steel production chain, specifically ladle heating.

At its steelworks, located at the Sidenor plant in Basauri, the company replaced the conventional burner with an oxy-combustion burner using hydrogen. This allowed them to complete a full ladle heating cycle, achieving the necessary operating temperatures.

These green hydrogen tests are a significant milestone, as Sidenor has carried them out in thermal processes that require high temperatures and are therefore difficult to electrify.

These tests, conducted within the framework of the IS2H4C project, have allowed us to validate the use of hydrogen as a substitute for natural gas in this process.

Sidenor is a company committed to the environment and sustainability, and is therefore constantly researching and investing in ways to advance the decarbonization of its production processes.
