- The steel company joins a coalition of more than 404 companies and 53 industry associations to request European institutions to implement measures that guarantee the stability of the industry in the face of international market challenges.
Protecting the steel and metals value chain in Europe is the central focus of the “Call to Action” that Sidenor has joined. This initiative, promoted by EUROMETAL, the Union of Steel Companies (UNESID) and EUROFORGE AISBL, brings together signatories from more than 404 companies and 53 associations across the continent, including producers, distributors and processors. This coalition is motivated by the increase in imports of processed products, distortions in global trade, and the high energy and regulatory costs affecting the industry.
Given this context, the signatories urge the national governments of the European Union and the European Commission to protect value chains through immediate and decisive measures. The signed document details that the current situation not only affects primary production but also has a comprehensive impact on the manufacturing, processing, distribution and service stages. In this regard, the text warns that, without swift intervention, Europe faces an accelerated process of deindustrialization that will jeopardize both employment in the sector and the strategic autonomy of the European Union.
Through this endorsement, Sidenor supports the need for effective and immediately applicable trade measures in line with the policies adopted by trading partners such as the United States and Canada. At the same time, the appeal emphasizes that the EU’s climate ambitions must be preserved within a framework that guarantees global competitiveness and allows the European industry to decarbonize without losing ground to unfair competition.
