Sidenor 2022 Sustainability Report

69 Renewable energy supply policy In order to ensure the achievement of our objectives, Sidenor developed in 2021 a green energy purchase strategy aiming at being sustainable over time and contributing to reducing Scope 2 emissions. This strategy consists in three areas of work: Concluding Power Purchasing Agreements (PPAs); Purchasing Green Energy Certificates or Guarantees of Origin; Implementing self- consumption in our main production facilities through photovoltaic solar energy projects. The measures taken in these areas of work allowed us to significantly reduce Scope 2 emissions in 2022, and thus come closer to our objective of reaching a power consumption based on 100% renewable energy by 2030. Green energy (MWh) % Green energy vs total consumption Avoided CO 2 t emissions 2021 142,967 24% 36,783 2022 417,336 68% 110,594 Emissions Sidenor’s special steel production plants have modern smoke vacuum and purification systems, which highly efficiently capture the particles generated during the process. This filtered material, which was before intended for landfill, is now a by-product that is used as a raw material in the zinc recovery industry. In order to ensure environmental control and performance, SIDENOR has gauges which continuously measure particles in the main steel mill emission points, which are connected to the surveillance network of the Basque Country. Use of chemical products Sidenor has implemented a management system which includes the use of chemical substances throughout the organization, with the aim of reducing the use of hazardous substances in all production processes. The system encompasses the purchase, use, storage and management of waste. M€ 6.7 Investment In the last 10 years 14,000 t/year Steel mill dust Zinc recovery
