52 Sustainability Report 2022 | Environmental sustainability Sidenor applies its environmental management integrally and transversally to the entire organization (people and processes) in order to continuously improve our performance and thus reduce the environmental impacts of our activity and products. From the perspective of Steel life cycle analysis, we apply environmental criteria in all production phases: design, selection of suppliers, raw material optimization, reduction in energy consumption, waste management as well as improvement in production processes and logistics. Heading for green steel 01. STEEL DESIGN PHASE Through our R&D&i department and in collaboration with our entire value chain, we work from the design stage of new steels in order to create increasingly sustainable and efficient products and processes. 02. RAW MATERIAL Sidenor uses recycled or reused scrap as its main raw material, thus contributing to the recycling of around 800,000 tons of metallic waste per year. At Sidenor, we are continuously searching for sustainable alternatives to the coals and fossil fuels used in our process. 03. PRODUCTION PROCESS Sidenor invests time and resources in order to:  Improve energy efficiency and optimize raw material and natural resource consumption.  Search for new ways of recovery and reuse for all resources.  Optimize the production process and logistics. 04.
