66 Sustainability Report 2021 | Environmental sustainability Product environmental footprint Our philosophy of work goes beyond the classical approach of focusing within the boundaries of our activity, and we extend this focus to the various stakeholders and throughout the entire chain of value, in the light of life cycle analysis. To this end, Sidenor became, in 2019, the first Company in the State to have its own certified system to calculate the environmental footprint of its products . In 2021, we recertified the EPD computer tool and extended the calculation scope to all plants of Sidenor, which enables us to assess the environmental impact of over 800 types of steel, as well as to draft and verify the Environmental Product Declarations for each of them. This assessment of our products’ life cycle is performed according to the requirements of the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards and is certified according to the ISO 14025 standard. In order to assess the accuracy of information and to review and evaluate the calculation software and the procedures established for its maintenance and updating, we perform regular external audits which verify whether the reference standards are complied with. This evaluation system considers five environmental impact categories, among which carbon footprint, as well as 12 indicators on resource consumption and waste generation.
