113 With those who need it most Club Sociedad Pelotazale Bide-Bieta This club was created in 1981, initially for the practise of paddles. Over the years, it went growing and, in 2001, a hand games school was created. In 2019, it became the first adapted paddle and hand game school in Biscay. This is the first club in Biscay which provides services for people with intellectual disabilities in a specific Basque pelota section. This year, in addition, it got in touch with the federation of adapted sport in order to start competitions. For equal opportunities At Sidenor, we work to foster the integration of everyone into society and we do so in a responsible manner, seeking alliances with the suppliers which bring added value to their own activity. As part of our endeavour to promote the employability of vulnerable groups, we work together with entities such as Lanbide (Basque employment service) or Usoa, a sheltered worksite in Barakaldo whose mission is to provide disabled people with stable and standard job opportunities which enable both their social and personal development. In 2021, Sidenor also worked together with Cáritas for the purchase of new machinery for Cáritas’ pre-labour inclusion workshop in Ariz, Basauri. The mission of this workshop consists in improving the employability of people by training and accompanying the acquisition of socio-labour skills through a production activity in a workshop (manipulative and machining tasks). By means of tutoring, the person is accompanied on her way towards improving her employability, thereby increasing her knowledge of labour resources and developing her personal labour insertion plan, with a defined objective as well as a planning and follow-up of her active search for a job. In addition, Caritas contributes to the constant promotion of gender equality, increasing the inclusion of women in a traditionally male sector. The participation rate of women in this projects currently amounts to 37%. Quality of life for the elderly We support our elderly by collaborating with the Hurkoa association, which aims at defending the rights and quality of life of elder people or people with mental illnesses who are in situations of fragility, dependency or lack of protection. As part of its commitment to society, the association also develops various activities aiming at raising awareness among the society regarding situations which affect a significant number of citizens, offering support and advice to family members and professionals in the social and health area, reporting on situations of neglect and abandonment, integrating voluntary work in interdisciplinary teams and cooperating with other entities in order to fulfil its mission.
