The company’s engineer Jon Retuerto was awarded the third position in the Companies category at the first edition of the competition organized by the UNESID Foundation
The first edition of Steel Challenge Spain, which took place last week, included 68 competitors divided in two categories: Companies and Students. This programme, organized by the UNESID Foundation in collaboration with the Spanish Steel Technology Platform (PLATEA), aims at promoting learning and skills training in the steel sector by means of simulators and advanced educational tools.
In the Companies category, Jon Retuerto, process engineer at Sidenor, reached the third position. To this aim, he had to deal with a practical challenge based on a steel production process simulation, taking strategic decisions in areas such as process optimization, efficiency management and cost reduction. The final objective was to find the most efficient and profitable solution, while applying the technical knowledge acquired in the steelmaking industry.
In addition, while he was competing at national level, Retuerto also took part in the global competition in the Europe-Africa region category, in which over 2,600 people from 34 countries participated.
This type of initiative allows the participants to apply and test their knowledge in a highly competitive environment, while promoting innovation, collaboration and the development of new strategies in the steel industry.
