90 Corporate Report 2020 | Society Quality of life for the elderly We support our elderly by collaborating with the Hurkoa association, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and aims at defending the rights and quality of life of elder people or people with mental illnesses who are in situations of fragility, dependency or lack of protection. As part of its commitment to society, the association also develops various activities aiming at raising awareness among the society regarding situations which affect a significant number of citizens, offering support and advice to family members and professionals in the social and health area, reporting on situations of neglect and abandonment, integrating voluntary work in interdisciplinary teams and cooperating with other entities in order to fulfil its mission. With those who need it most Pequeño Deseo Foundation The mission of this non-profit organisation is to turn the desires of boys and girls suffering from chronic diseases or with poor prognosis into reality in order to support them emotionally and make their disease more bearable. Over two decades, the wishes of 5,500 children were fulfilled. The organisation was not able to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2020, but will launch initiatives in 2021, so that children might keep smiling. As part of our endeavour to promote the employability of vulnerable groups, we work together with entities such as Lanbide (Basque employment service) or Usoa, a sheltered worksite in Barakaldo whose mission is to provide disabled people with stable and standard job opportunities which enable both their social and personal development. For the integration of young people The Bakuva Foundation is a non-profit association dedicated to the social integration of children and young people from Bilbao’s La Vieja district by means of sporting, entertainment and educational activities. At Sidenor, we have been working together with this Foundation since 2017, as part as of our commitment to groups which are most in need of support. San Prudencio Foundation Through our plant in Vitoria, we work together with the San Prudencio Foundation, a leader in the management and implementation of social responsibility in the companies of Álava. Over 400 companies are associated with this Foundation which organises activities for the benefit of around 80,000 people.
