Sidenor 2020 Corporate Report

Reduction We are constantly searching for new ways of reducing the use of resources and minimising the impact of our activity. Emissions We have made significant investments to reduce our atmospheric emissions, both in terms of particles and greenhouse gases. In particular, in 2020, we installed humidification systems for powdery materials in order to reduce the atmospheric pollution caused by their handling. In addition, we are associated with the electric mix of energy suppliers with which we cooperate, and we work directly with them to increase the share of renewable energies. With respect to noise pollution, we carry out annual noise studies and measurements in our main plants, in order to mitigate its individual and collective impact, when appropriate, for example by installing noise-absorbing panels. We have also taken measures aimed at reducing our light pollution, and we are in the middle of a comprehensive process of replacing the traditional lighting of our centres by LED lights which reduce energy consumption. Energy Using resources in a more efficient way allows us to reduce our consumption and boost the decarbonisation of the economy. In 2020, the two first phases of the inspection and characterisation of scrap in vehicles by means of muon tomography project were approved. This project aims at the development of technologies which enable us to improve the quality of the metallic load and, thus, to eliminate impurities which result in electric energy over-consumption in the furnace, increased generation of waste and productivity losses due to the handling of unnecessary weights. Leaders in the HORDAGO project In 2020, Sidenor led the HORDAGO project, whose main objective is to develop smart gas industrial furnaces that are connected with 4.0 industrial processes in order to optimise their availability as well as operational and energy performance. TRACEX project Sidenor participates in the TRACEX Project, which aims at developing an advanced digital platform that provides functionalities in order to increase traceability and material resource efficiency along the value chain, reduce the costs linked to logistics and improve the exchange of information between concerned participants, so as to optimise the different operations in the value chain. 53
