Sidenor Corporate Report 2019

80 Corporate report 2019 | Society ABAO-OLBE At Sidenor, we support entities that are rooted in the society, such as the Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera, an essential leader in Basque and national culture which stands out due to its international projection. This entity of international scope presents each year nearly fifty performances that reach almost 100,000 spectators. Throughout the year, we draw tickets among Sidenor’s employees, so that they may attend its events, as well as the other cultural and sporting activities that we sponsor. Knowing the industry from inside As part of our commitment to training, we participated in the Day of Industry, organised by the Vizcaya Federation of Metal Companies (FVEM). Students from the URBI high school of Basauri visited our facilities within the framework of this event which shed light on the industrial sector and strengthened the presence of women in this field. Around 1,000 young people discovered the industry, its processes, its specificities and its ways of working from inside. Master in Materials Engineering Through Sidenor R&D, we collaborate with the University of the Basque Country in this training programme, providing training on key contents in this field. This Master gives direct access to the Doctoral Programme in Materials and Sustainable Processes Engineering. For innovation Sidenor was one of the 40 major Basque firms which acted as trailblazing companies for start-ups from all over the world at the third edition of the Bind 4.0 programme. In 2019, through this public/ private platform aimed at attracting talent and developing smart industry in the Basque Country, the Company worked together with the start-up Immersia on the project of a “digital twin” for the rolling mill in our Basauri plant. Visits to our facilities One year more, we welcomed visits by students from the Egibide high school in Vitoria, the Somorrostro Occupational Training Centre or the URBI high school in Basauri, among others, to our facilities so that they could find out first-hand how steel is manufactured.
