Sidenor Corporate Report 2019
43 Fines2EAF project The main objective of this project is the economic reutilisation of various fine residues by means of recirculation in the form of briquettes in the electric arc furnace, in order to recover valuable material and thus reduce landfilling. Sidenor is leading this project supported by the LIFE project of the European Commission, which aims at extending the “4R” paradigm up to “5R” (reduce – reuse – remanufacture – recycle – re-educate) and applying it to the steel sector and the refractory market, thus optimising the use of these materials. Throughout 2019, we participated in various fora in order to disseminate the reach, progress and benefits of the project. In addition to taking care of the natural environments where we are present (none of which is protected), we develop initiatives aimed at their recovery, especially if they are of ecological, landscape, scientific or cultural interest. We thus provide society with new areas for recreation and enjoyment. The recovery and conversion of the Basauri heap into a 45,000 square metre park is a clear example of the recovery carried out by the Company at the end of 2017. ecovery We lead the project 3
