Sidenor Corporate Report 2019

Corporate report 2019 | Environment 40 SIDENOR’S 5 We maintain a strong commitment to the communities where we do business, which is why we pay special attention to the care, protection and preservation of the natural environments where we are present. To that effect, we are continuously searching for ways of optimising activities in our worksites, focusing on the reduction of consumption and emissions, as well as the reuse and recovery of waste generated during steel production. Sidenor produces 100% of its steel from scrap. Recycling is therefore one of our primary activities and we manage yearly close to one million tonnes of industrial waste and obsolete materials which are no longer of use to society, such as household appliances or cars. In our centres, we reuse these raw materials and transform them into new steel products of the highest quality. Scrap recycling not only gives new life to waste, but also helps reduce the use of energy in steel production processes and, consequently, CO 2 emissions, in addition to reducing landfilling. Scrap recycling also creates jobs for thousands of people thanks to an extensive collection and processing chain. ecycling Eliminating radioactive material Our Company has endorsed the Radiological Surveillance Protocol, which aims at preventing incidents from occurring as a result of radioactive materials in recycled metal materials.
